Sam Tracy is an associate at VS Strategies based in Portland, Maine, where he works on a wide array of local and state cannabis policy issues around the U.S. Sam specializes in national strategy, helping plant-touching and ancillary businesses monitor and influence cannabis legislation and rulemaking around the country.
Sam has dedicated his career to ending the war on drugs and replacing cannabis prohibition with a system of responsible regulation, and he has worn many hats in the world of cannabis policy reform.
Prior to joining VSS, Sam spent six years at multistate operator 4Front Ventures, starting in business development and eventually becoming director of government relations. During that time, he also served as Connecticut political director for the Marijuana Policy Project, leading the campaign to legalize cannabis for adult use in his home state during two legislative sessions. In addition, Sam was a co-founder and co-host of the popular podcast This Week in Drugs, which aired from 2015-2018.
Sam has served on the boards of multiple nonprofit organizations, including Marijuana Majority, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, and the ACLU of Connecticut.
