Taylor Hartin Leaves Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority to Join Cannabis Policy Firm VS Strategies

OKLAHOMA CITY — Taylor Hartin has left her role as one of Oklahoma’s top marijuana regulators to join VS Strategies, a leading cannabis policy and public affairs firm, as a senior associate. She will remain based in Oklahoma, where she will work to build the firm’s local practice in addition to servicing its roster of clients around the country.

Hartin served as Director of Compliance and Enforcement for the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority, where she oversaw compliance for the state’s medical cannabis program and played an integral role in the OMMA's legislative and regulatory processes. In addition to drafting bills and helping to shepherd critical legislation through the Legislature, she contributed to the drafting of five sets of emergency and permanent rules, the last of which take effect in late 2022.

“Taylor’s policy and regulatory experience in the public sector, combined with her passion as an advocate, make her an invaluable asset to our clients,” said VSS partner Jordan Wellington. “She is intensely familiar with cannabis laws and regulations around the country, and she understands the nuances that are integral to developing effective, efficient, and responsible cannabis policies. She will be a critical resource for our team, our clients, and governments around the country as they work to develop and implement systems for regulating medical and adult-use cannabis.”

Previously, Hartin served as a senior regulatory analyst with Simplifya, a leading developer of regulatory compliance software for the cannabis industry, where she exhaustively reviewed state and local cannabis regulations in more than 15 states. During and after law school, she helped a national law firm build out its cannabis practice and lobbying divisions.

Hartin graduated cum laude from the University of Oklahoma and attended the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where she served as president of the school’s chapter of Students for Sensible Drug Policy. She was a contributing author to "Marijuana Politics: Uncovering the Troublesome History and Social Costs of Criminalization," a research book that focuses heavily on the history of cannabis criminalization and its societal costs.
